WA LABOR’S GOLD STANDARD SPIN TAKES CENTRE STAGE

Remember when the WA Labor Government promised West Australians “gold standard transparency”. Just last week WA Labor’s “gold standard transparency” was on full display once again for Western Australians to see.

While the South Australian and Victorian Labor governments have elected to reveal the costs to taxpayers of bringing premier events to their states, that same level of transparency is not forthcoming from this WA Labor Government.

If South Australians know that the AFL’s “Gather Round” costs $80 million in cash and non-capital investment over the life of the current three-year deal, and Victorians know that the spectacle of the Melbourne Formula 1 Grand Prix comes at a cost of $100 million, why can’t Western Australian taxpayers know the cost of bringing a WWE event to Western Australia?

This is the same WA Labor Government that was more than happy to tell us last year’s WWE event brought in 18,000 visitors and injected $36 million into the economy. Why is sharing the good news okay, but that no one should dare ask about the cost?

LEST WE FORGET

Last Friday on the 25th of April, Australians proudly commemorated ANZAC Day.

Across our State, hundreds of thousands gathered at Dawn Services to reflect, mourn and honour the landing of the ANZACs at Gallipoli 110 years ago.

It was my honour to lay a wreath at the King’s Park ANZAC Day Dawn Service on behalf of the Parliamentary Liberal Party and later attend the RSL Cambridge Sub-Branch ANZAC Day ceremony in West Leederville, for the first time as the Member for Churchlands, a very proud moment. Later, I joined thousands at The March down St Georges Terrace.

Bravery, servitude and sacrifice embody the ANZAC spirit, and it is the same spirit that should inspire all that we do in public life and in the pursuit of good governance in Western Australia.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn

At the going down of the sun and in the morning

We will remember them.

Lest We Forget.
