A fantastic two days in Geraldton listening to the needs in this growing city and the vitally important Mid West region.

With my State colleague Steve Martin MLC and Melissa Price MP, we heard concerns about iron ore dust from uncovered rail hopper cars, visited the West End’s impressive boat building industry and met with the City of Greater Geraldton to discuss some of the region’s biggest challenges, including housing shortages, the impact of the fishing ban and transport infrastructure.

We also heard firsthand from frontline health workers about the challenges they face servicing the region, and from small business owners about the increasing impact of crime.

Of course, no trip to Geraldton is complete without local sport. It was great to visit Geraldton Netball Association and the FightMND Big Freeze, before heading to Towns Football Club, part of the legendary Great Northern Football League, with Steve Martin MLC.

The Mid West has grown significantly over the past decade, yet the consistent message we heard was that people feel constantly overlooked by both state and federal Labor governments.

This is why so many of my parliamentary and party colleagues came to Geraldton this weekend for the WA Liberals State Council meeting - to ensure regional voices help shape our priorities.

The WA State Liberal team understands the vital role the regions plays in our state’s future and are committed to ensuring they receive the attention they deserve.
