On the morning of Wednesday, 26 November 2025, Val Klopper passed away. A stalwart member of the Rockingham branch since 1995 and a member on the east coast for many years before she moved to WA, Val really was the best amongst us.

A battle-hardened campaigner and the most reliable election volunteer in our movement’s history, Val set the standard for acting out our values.

People often remark that when our opponents saw Val approaching a polling place to volunteer, they would recognise her and run the other way. She was just that good!

A true believer in Liberal values, without fail, she would confidently and stridently make her strong views known, without fear or favour, to anyone who would listen.

This extended even to her recent stay in hospital, where I’m told she was still espousing the Liberal message to the doctors, nurses and (possibly unwilling) patients in the ward!

That was Val in a nutshell.

For myself, Val was one of the first long-term members to get involved in my first run as a candidate back in 2022 – in fact, according to my records she was the first person to make a financial donation to my race, a practice which she has continued since.

The WA Liberals offer their condolences to the wider Klopper family and offer good wishes and prayers for Val, thanking her for her years of service to our great movement.

Vale Val Klopper. There will never be another. Rest in peace.
