After eight years of WA Labor, Western Australia’s health system has collapsed, leaving record numbers of Western Australians stuck in emergency departments, ramped in ambulances, and on waiting lists for life-saving surgery.
Just last week, the Productivity Commission outlined the disaster that has unfolded in our health system under Roger Cook’s watch. The report stated that WA has the longest wait times for urgent visits to public emergency departments and that fewer than half of all emergency department patients are being seen on time.
Under WA Labor, Western Australia has the worst emergency departments in the country.
The priorities of the Cook Labor Government were further exposed by this report, which revealed that WA has the fewest nurses per capita while also having the highest number of health bureaucrats and middle managers in the country.
It’s clear that Roger Cook has spent eight years—either as Premier or Health Minister—prioritising spin over saving lives.
Not only has Roger Cook demonstrated complete incompetence in managing WA’s health system, but his increasing arrogance poses a threat to the lives and livelihoods of Western Australians.
Roger Cook wants you to believe that ambulance ramping has gone down, yet under his leadership, ramping has increased by 740% since WA Labor came to office.
Roger Cook wants you to believe that it’s safe to build the new Women and Babies Hospital at Murdoch, yet his own government’s CAHS report states that the only site that can guarantee the safety of newborns and their mothers is the QEII site.
After eight years of failure, Roger Cook and WA Labor cannot be trusted to manage our health system.
Western Australians deserve a gold-standard healthcare system that delivers for them and their families when they need it most.
Only the WA Liberals have a plan to reverse WA Labor’s health disaster and fix our health system.
A Mettam Liberal Government will deliver the infrastructure our health system desperately needs:
We will expand the capacity of Joondalup Health Campus.
We will build the new Women and Babies Hospital at QEII.
We will rebuild Royal Perth Hospital.
A Mettam Liberal Government will expand the capacity of our healthcare system by:
Delivering 500 new transitional beds.
Establishing three new urgent care clinics.
Implementing the Elective Surgery Guarantee, ensuring all Western Australians receive the surgery they need, on time.
A Mettam Liberal Government will expand our health workforce, restoring dignity for doctors, nurses, and surgeons, and ensuring more Western Australians get the care they need, when they need it.
We will boost the number of GPs in WA.
We will implement the Pathways to Patients Program, putting more nurses in public hospitals.
We will strengthen our pharmacies, alleviating pressure on GPs and public hospitals.
Only a Mettam Liberal Government will deliver a commonsense plan to fix our health system and provide Western Australians with the care they deserve.
