Colette Wiltshire who has died on 21st February aged 91 was a stalwart member of the Liberal Party Swan division and a loyal Liberal for more than 50 years, still handing out HTV cards at prepolls until a few years ago.  She was a former President, Vice-President and office bearer of Swan Division Liberal women, served on numerous campaigns and committees, and was at times a vocal member of State Council.

Colette was of Irish descent, proud of her Catholic faith, born in Burma and living in India and in Britain before migrating to Perth with her mother in 1956.  She had a long career in the WA Public Service, receiving a meritorious service award after 30 years.  At a time when Ministers had far smaller staff entitlements, she served as a ministerial staffer for Hon Ray O’Connor during the government of Sir Charles Court.  The experience of the Labor government of the 1980s led to her retirement, filled by Liberal Party activism and the enjoyment of travel.

When the occasion demanded Colette could speak wisely and forcefully at State Council, drawing on her experience when the public service was subjected to foolish and shallow generalisations. She richly earned the Meritorious Service Award given by the Liberal Party.

Our condolences go to her many friends, particularly former Swan Division President Sandra Brown.
